how i know i’m getting older:

today, i walked from
my bedroom to the bathroom
with only socks on;

i stubbed my toe
and cursed the name
of my long-dead dog,
whom i never cared
very much for
in the first place;

the prospects on investing
in leather armchairs
are looking better
with each and every
passing day,

and the ottomans…

oh, the ottomans!
